The Material Of ACIM Lesson 15 To Practice
Source: Teachings of Christ Mind - Lesson 15 - ACIM Sparkly Edition
This lesson reveals the profound truth about how our thoughts shape our perceptions. The world we see is merely a projection of our thoughts, not a true vision of reality. Our thoughts, which we believe are real, manifest as images. This is not true seeing but image-making, a function we have given to our physical eyes.
Understanding this concept may not be immediate. Real vision begins when you notice light around familiar objects. This light symbolizes true perception and marks the beginning of opening your spiritual eyes. These "light episodes" are signs of awakening but are not knowledge itself. They prepare the way to true knowledge.
ACIM Lesson 15 Practice Periods
To practice today’s idea, repeat it to yourself and then apply it to what you see around you, naming each object:
“This _____ is an image which I have made.”
“That _____ is an image which I have made.”
Focus your eyes on each subject as you say these words slowly. You don’t need to cover many subjects in each session; a few random objects are sufficient. Aim for three practice periods, each lasting a minute or so, ensuring you feel comfortable throughout. Do not exceed four practice periods.
Perceiving vs. Seeing with Consciousness
This lesson “My thoughts are images which I have made” from ACIM highlights a fundamental distinction between perceiving and truly seeing with consciousness. Our everyday perception is a process of image-making, driven by the thoughts we hold. These thoughts project images that form our perceived reality, often filled with suffering, loss, and death. This is not true seeing; it is a construct of our mind’s illusions.
Perceiving
Perceiving is a mental activity where we interpret and give meaning to the images we see with our physical eyes. These images are reflections of our internal thoughts and beliefs, not an objective reality. When we perceive, we are often reacting to the projections of our fears, desires, and past experiences. This perception is limited and can be misleading, as it is bound by our current state of mind and emotional conditioning.
Seeing with Consciousness
Seeing with consciousness, on the other hand, involves looking beyond the images our minds have created. It is an act of seeing through the illusions to the underlying truth. When we see with consciousness, we begin to notice the light around familiar objects, symbolizing the initial stages of true vision. This light is not physical but a manifestation of our awakening awareness.
Transition from Perceiving to Seeing
The transition from perceiving to seeing with consciousness involves letting go of the thoughts and beliefs that shape our illusions. By acknowledging that our thoughts create the images we see, we start to dismantle the false constructs of our perceived reality. This process may bring up fear as it challenges deeply held beliefs, but it ultimately leads to a state of perfect safety and peace.
Practicing today’s idea helps us move from perceiving to seeing. By repeating the phrase,“This _____ is an image which I have made,” we remind ourselves of the illusory nature of our perceptions. This practice prepares us to open our spiritual eyes and recognize the true vision that lies beyond our self-made images.
